Where Anyone is Possible
This is where you can go to have your characters interact with others in real time, with no delay, and no refresh necessary. Because of this the roleplaying can get very quick, and challenging, especially when there are multiple people in a single room.
RolePages has a few different chat systems that we use.
Main Chat (The Main Stage) The Main Chat is pretty much also the Main Stage of the RolePages site. It is a system that has a single chat room, but the room is quick, dynamic, and fully integrated into the network. If you are not a member you won’t be able to see it, but once you are you will be able to see profile pictures, links to character profiles, and the ability to privately message other characters, all at your fingertips.
This is where most of the characters involved in the Main Story Arc spend the majority of their time on the site. Main Chat is also where most of the public Events take place, and where the DM’s tend to focus their efforts of shaping and sculpting the narrative of the community.
However, the fact that it is a single room chat, and it is the focus of the entire site, means that it often gets very crowded in there. The scroll can often be quite quick, and it may take very swift fingers if you want to keep up.
Setting: The default setting for the Main Chat in line with the Main Story Arc is an establishment run by a man named Harry, who serves free food and drinks to anyone who drops by. However this setting can change, and Main Chat can be used for multiple people in multiple setting as long as it does not get too confusing.
Multiverse Chat: This is the alternative to Main Chat, and is built on third party software that is not native to the core RolePages functionality. We have used several different software providers before, but they all have one thing in common: the ability to make multiple rooms.
Because of this ability, Multiverse chat is where people often go to handle smaller roleplaying and storytelling sessions, that they do not want the entire site to see or participate in. Some side missions are also conducted in Multiverse, so as not to interrupt the the flow of conversation in Main Chat. Further, it can be used to create stories around specific locations.
The Villains Den: A relatively new addition, this is a place that you can go when you have a character that doesn’t fit in with the traditional ‘heroes’ in the main story arc. It’s also a great place to plot nefarious IC deeds that you want to perpetrate on different parts of the site.
