Victim or Vampire?

I strode through the streets of the burgeoning city, past the refuse and the rabble. The air was fresh, the stench of the days waste blown off by the cool evening breeze. The night was filled with sound, the clack of hooves as horses drew coaches along the water front, the sound of children running off to mischief, and beneath it all, the quiet moan of the beggars in their alleys, like a soft hum behind the city.

I was contemplating immortality. It is amazing how often immortals… Continue

Better Living Through Art

The first time it only happened a little. I was working on a painting, it was a bit of an impressionistic piece, depicting in hazy illuminated tones the spirit of a giddy schoolgirl at play. I was especially enjoying the light springtime greens that sparkled across her forehead.

I turned to clean my brush, I am very thorough with my utensils, and when I had turned back the girl had moved.

Needless to say I was a bit tiffed. I had put her in that specific position for a… Continue

Tiger in the Paint

Today I painted a tiger. I don't know why i did it, I knew what was going to happen, but I guess I was just feeling a little bored with life, so I went for it.

He started pacing around on the canvas before I was even done, making it quite difficult to get his lovely stripes straight. But I did, because I am a perfectionist.

The second I was finished wham, he leaped right off the page, and there he was, a 10 foot long tiger pacing back and forth in my living… Continue

That Damned Contract

I always thought of myself as a pretty decent guy. I paid my taxes, ate relatively well, took care of my family, and even gave money to that homeless guy on the corner when I had some spare change. I figured I had some pretty decent karma owed my way. Well, I was wrong. Karma doesn't exist. Life is about killing or being killed. That's all there is, and all there ever will be.

They came to me in my office, two of them, suits, glasses, they looked like they had just stepped out of the… Continue

A Message From First Death

I found this note sticking in the door of my apartment when I got home late one night from a young...uh ladies residence.

"Dear Stephan,"

"Thank you for the deaths that you have caused. This note is to inform you that you have been selected in the Grim Reaper wheal of fortune contest. This contest will take place over the course of the next month, and will involve a variety of attempts to end your life."

"Please note that if you are in any way associated with… Continue

Mixed Up Emotions

swing low swing high

up until you reach the sky

a pixie farts into the night

sending streams of candlelight

like flickering fowl on unfurled wings, that stand aside the counted streams

opf ever faded moonlit nights that havent got a lot of bite

these may be random

quick

or slow

words that you ought to know

of waxen men, and shrunken heads, and ghosts trapped within their deathly beds

but if you seek a still lost sot, then… Continue

Sweet Regret

When I say that I kill with a certain amount of regret, I am not trying to be apologetic, or coy. I really do appreciate people. They're little quirks, the way they move, the way they behave when they think nobody is watching.

And it really is a shame to see all of that go. But you know, a girls gotta eat.

So I was following this old banker down third avenue. It was late, but I didn't mind, I like the night. Its just a tiny bit more raw.

Anyways, he was doing… Continue

Under The Verdant Sky

In times long past I sat and gazed at the slow meandering rivers, that work their way through the land. I have seen these rivers start as cracks, grow, lengthen, reach out across the earth like stretching fingers, only to be closed in an instant, by a little quaking from below.

I have lived long enough to see my heartsong, the sapling planted at my birth, take its place in the sky amongst the other might oaks of the forest.

In this time I have danced the mysterious steps… Continue

The Two Different Types of Role Playing Games

As the title implies, there are two major categories of role playing game. While these two classifications can sometimes intermingle within a single experience, in general they separate entities which are largely independent of one another.

On the one hand you have numerical role playing. This consists of leveling up, acquiring gold, and basically performing tasks to increase the numerical statistics of a character. This is probably the most popular form of role-playing game today,… Continue
