Where Anyone is Possible
Over on Earth, where things aren't as bad as they are on Hellifyno (as far as the governments let you know) Cam and Mack have shacked up somewhere in Europe. Because that's where Cam really loves visiting. But, of course, not everything is picture perfect. To help his wife get through the dark places in her mind, Mack has persistently urged her to get some professional help. Even if he doesn't believe these kinds of people can actually make any difference. The therapist he found goes by the name of Dr Frizzle. A homely looking middle aged man with a perfectly trimmed porn star mustache and a fondness for Christmas sweaters even if it's obviously the summer time.
Dr Frizzle: Mrs Roberts, is it? Today we're just going to get to know each other.
Cam: Aren't you hot?
Dr Frizzle: Pardon?...
Cam: Your sweater...it looks hot.
Dr Frizzle: Oh. Yes, well. I remain indoors where it's air conditioned. So, tell me, Mrs Roberts. What's your favorite animal?
Cam: Hm. I don't really have a favorite. I like all animals. They all have a purpose in the animal kingdom, but...if I had to choose. I'd pick...a wolf.
Dr Frizzle: Interesting choice. Could you tell me why, perhaps?
Cam: Oh yeah. They remind me of my husband. *She grins like she's got some sort of secret*
Dr Frizzle: Interesting...*He jots something down* And what's your favorite season?
Cam: I like basil seasoning...all kinds of basil. And there are a lot.
Dr Frizzle: Ah yes, I'm rather fond of the lemon basil myself. But I meant a season in the year.
Cam: Right!? Really good on chicken. *Completely ignoring the other question*
Dr Frizzle: *He moves on, jotting something down* Is chicken you're favorite food to eat?
Cam: No. My favorite is this weird broth Mack makes when it's winter time. It's weird because I don't know what he puts in it, but it's soo good.
Dr Frizzle: Ah. So winter is your favorite time of the year. *He smiles*
Cam: *She shudders horribly* Gods, no. Summer is my favorite.
Dr Frizzle: Good good. *He jots some more notes down* And Mack, this is your husband, correct? The one that reminds you of wolves.
Cam: *She beams* Yes.
Dr Frizzle: *He smiles in return and lowers his things* Tell me about him.
Cam: Oh gosh. Where to begin? *She laughs nervously, tucking a messy curl behind her ear* He's just amazing. He really gets me, you know? When we're together, it's like we've known each other all our lives. Hah. I know it's corny, but that's how I feel. Though he'd probably just grunt and comment on how good the sex is. *She laughs*
Dr Frizzle: *He chuckles* Of course. And do you remember the first time you met?
Cam: Hmm. Do I remember....? Oh! Of course. Gosh, at the time I was working at the tavern. You know, from where we used to live. *She waves a hand off in a direction as if to indicate some place far far away* I was a waitress and assistant bartender. Not like we needed one, Harry was really good. Well, Mack showed up and I think he'd been around before, but never saw him myself. He was at the bar, ordering beers and we chatted a little bit. He was real sweet. A smooth talker. *She grins, rolling her eyes* But I was busy with other orders and cleaning the counter. So we couldn't really get a good conversation going. Until finally he built up the courage to grab my wrist when I hustled by and asked me on a date.
Dr Frizzle: And what did you tell him?
Cam: *She laughs* Well, at the time I hadn't known what a date WAS! You see, I was a very very sheltered child. *As if* Poor thing had to explain it to me. And I agreed. We were supposed to go to some sort of cafe and try the coffee...*Her expression falters* But then things happened. We sort of lost each other and never made contact for a long time. I guess we sorta just forgot about each other eventually.
Dr Frizzle: *He starts writing furiously* And yet, you are together today. What happened?
Cam: Oh, well. I came back around. Deciding that enough was enough, what had happened on our...in our city wasn't going to drag me down. And there he was! With another woman of course. Oh gosh. What was her name?...Vixen...Vice? Vice! That was it.
Dr Frizzle: Oh. I see. *Still writing. Seems to be a novel* So he had found another woman. Did you fight over him?
Cam: *Busts out laughing* No way! I would have been mortified. And dead. She was a real tough cookie. They were really a great pair. Two rough and rowdy people. Sometimes I think he would've been better off with her. But...she stopped coming around. Probably busy with something. And Mack and I started talking again...got to know each other more. Then I had to ask him for help with something. *She starts turning red* We ended up sleeping together and...well. That's that.
Dr Frizzle: And this woman, Vice. She never returned? *He stops writing*
Cam: That's the worse part. She DID come back. And she was pissed, I think. I know I would have been...*She grimaces, looking down at her feet* It's a horrible feeling when you realize you're the home-wrecker. Of course, Mack decided to keep me for some reason. *Her guilt is very apparent, written all over her freckled face* If I remember correctly, she slapped him. And I apologized to him. But he said he still wanted to get to know me better. To try and have a relationship.
Dr Frizzle: *Upon the observation of her guilt, he starts writing madly again* And when was this? When all this went down.
Cam: Huh? Oh geeze. Uhm. About a year and a half ago? It feels like forever...
Dr Frizzle: So you've been holding onto the guilt of this small event for a year and a half. Even after he's forgiven you? Stayed with you? I assume he's been faithful.
Cam: *She goes pale at the mention of faithfulness* Oh. Yeah. He's never cheated on me. I mean, I trust him. He loves me, and I know it. *She pushes some curls out of her face*
Dr Frizzle: I see....*He finishes his notes and tucks the pen in his book before closing it* Due to the low budget you and your husband have, our sessions are short. So I believe that's all the time we have for today. *He stands, heading to the door*
Cam: Wh-what? Oh. Well, wait...*He paused* Aren't you supposed to, I don't know, like ask me how it makes me feel?
Dr Frizzle: *He tilts his head* How does that all make you feel, Cameo?
Cam: *She sighs, deflating* Well......I kind of feel like punching you in the face.
Dr Frizzle: *He smiles and opens the door for her* I'll see you next week, Mrs Roberts.
Cam stood without another word. Looking down at her left hand, she twisted the golden wedding band on her ring finger while walking out. She continued through the building, towards the front entrance to meet her husband on the steps where he was probably waiting with his motorcycle. She couldn't help but smile and walk just a little faster.
