Where Anyone is Possible
Phlegethos is the fourth layer of Hell.
What was once a fiery domain of spewing lava and ash is slowly but steadily changing.
The champion of Phlegethos, Belial, was defeated in single combat by the Silverhide Alpha and champion of Gaia, Titus.
Titus dueled with Belial within an arena of flame while the heroes battled savagely with Void-tainted Wyrmspawn. When Titus struck down Belial, control of Phlegethos was transfered to Titus. Already the child of light seeks to transform the evil of the layer, transform it into a safe haven for those who still stand against the might of the Chaos Wyrm.
There have been several subtle but noticeable changes to Phlegethos. There is reportedly still much work to do, but the searing, unbearable heat of the layer has been dropped to a normal, neutral temperature.
The ground and earth are still coarse and fiery, the rivers of lava continue to wind their way around the layer, but now there are signs of life. Plants and very small trees are sprouting up all over Phlegethos; they appear to be rather twisted and grotesque, but they symbolize life and the coming of greater things.
The sky is starting to lose some of its ashen hue, with very small snippets of blue coloring visible, a prelude to fresher air.
Defenses have been erected at least 2 miles from the the Diner, forming a very small circle of black marble barricades. These are not very defensive, but serve as outposts, warning the Diner of impending danger and can also be used to withstand smaller attacks.
A pit is being excavated with the hope of one day becoming a beautiful river, supplying the layer with fresh water.
The Chronicle Society has even heard whispered reports of the planning of a city which will be constructed at the heart of the Layer.
But there is little time and much to do. Efforts are being poured into completely revitalizing Phlegethos, but the danger is by no means over. This is a Layer of Hell, and its boundaries are not designed to resist the entrance of Wyrm's minions. Demons, beasts and horrors may come and go with ease. Venturing too far from the Diner is dangerous, with small hordes of demons and monsters still roaming unchecked.
The Chronicle Society will keep watch and continue to update on the state of Phlegethos.
