Hush a bye

How had he allowed this to go on so long, his mind searched and searched for another way, any way to escape the inevitable that lay before him.  It was his fault, she was not to blame for what she became and all the pain and sorrow she had inflicted were actually blights on his fragile soul.  His mind went back to their first meeting. He actually had thought she was an arrogant bitch, but something about her, something familiar had drawn his attention back to her.  Asmo’s intervention didn’t help matters, along with his own tenuous grip on reality, it had spelled trouble from the start BUT something WAS there. Everyone knows that a love potion doesn’t work if something isn’t there to spark it anyway, even if they hadn’t realized it at the time.

Why had he ghouled her… Yes… he remembered, he had thought he was protecting her, sort of, a lot of that time was manipulated so on that he can’t really be sure but that must have been it.  Ghouling, that should have been the extent of it.  She got the benefits, hah if you can call them benefits, of his vampiric nature without the full burden of the dwelling beast within. Then THAT night, she lay in a pool of her own blood, broken, edging downward toward that peaceful darkness.  Was it selfishness, was it jealousy, was it loneliness, it was probably a bit of each, but seeing her there and no one even offering to help that was the other thing he had against the “Heroes”, how they ever got that nomenclature will be a mystery to him for eons, they were far from being heroes and were just a band of monsters.  He had planned on offering her the Embrace but that was to be a ways into the future where she had the choice to decide and not have it thrust upon her. But fickle fate had stepped in and took that away.

From that point on he had watched the slow and steady decent into the darkness. He knew that spiral all too well, he had taken that path himself.  More and more of the darkness creeping into her soul, more and more contempt for life and decency.  He had known when she was running rampant with Nyarlathotep, he knew the dark deeds she had indulged in with such vigor, even to this day.  But now he knew he couldn’t let her continue like this.  He knew that it was the only option available to him to finally give her some peace.  He knew Daloki must die.  The plans had been in place at least the better part of a year and now was the best time to implement it.

He had shown interest in her the night before.  She liked odd movies from earth so he had let her pick the vid. She had chosen a sort of movie about hope and she had actually teared up a bit as a song was sung, snuggling deeper into the crook of my arm, and he didn’t mind that.  He sniffed her hair, trying to remember her scent, feeling her lifeforce and when he knew she was relaxed had gently Dominated her and took a quick copy of her relaxed with a soul stone.  He wanted something, anything to remember her by.

The next evening they had entered the tavern, she looked as giddy as a school girl, taking and holding the attention he was adorning her with.

They had been talking quietly for some time when Elexin smiled, though his eyes seemed a bit distant, almost sad. Then he looked deeply into Daloki’s eyes. “Care for a dance, Doll?”

A smile broke over her face. “I’d love to.”

Elexin stood, extending his hand, taking hers in his, pulling her to her feet. His voice seemed to be as soft and gentle as a breeze. “Sing this, Dal.” He began to hum as they started waltzing in slow, hypnotic circles. The others in the tavern could almost hear a melancholy violin and cello playing. Some of them smiled to see the two who had fought so often in such loving harmony for a change.

{He pushed a bit of his blood control over her.  He would ease her into the song, into the peace she so richly deserved if he could just keep his nerve. Part of him wanted to call the whole thing off, but in the end, he kept telling himself it was the only humane thing to do.}

Dal flowed into the dance and listened to his humming, then picked up the song. Elexin smiled and joined in. She felt very peaceful, almost sleepy. He pulled her head to his chest as they continued spinning and singing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp7-Gu6T5wU)

A gentle breeze from Hushabye Mountain
Softly blows o’er Lullaby Bay
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting
Waiting to sail your worries away

{ His mind gently stroked her consciousness ” Relax my love! Let all your cares float away.  Close your eyes Doll and rest. }

It’s so long since they’ve been so happy, Dal thought, and as she sang, her left arm crept farther up over his shoulder, and she closed her eyes.

It isn’t far to Hushabye Mountain
And your boat waits down by the quay
The winds of night so softly are sighing
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea

{ That’s it Doll let everything go. You have run the race as best you could. Now it is time for you to rest. }

Daloki had no troubles now; there was only the warmth of his body and the song. She continued singing with the soft smile that hardly anyone ever saw.

So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain
Wave goodbye to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from Lullaby Bay

As they finished singing, an all-encompassing silence hung in the air. An odd spinning vortex of Void appeared near them, but they seemed oblivious as Elexin raised her head and placed a gentle kiss upon her lips, and then…

He plunged his suddenly sharp-taloned hand deep into her chest, ripping her heart from the wound. As Dal began to collapse against the arm that had been around her waist during the dance, there was just an instant’s look of shock in her eyes before they closed. He held up the heart and wrapped it in dark matter, causing it to vanish. Then gently, as if with a child asleep, he scooped up her limp form.

“I do love you, Daloki, and this is for the best.” He tore a lock of hair from her head before tossing her lifeless body into the swirling emptiness, watching her atoms dissolve as tears of blood fell from his eyes.

Daloki’s friends were motionless with shock just seconds too long before attacking. As silver spears were launched toward him, as a lycan began to transform and charge, Elexin pressed something on his wrist, seemed to waver a few seconds, and then vanished.

    Raiden concealed his seething rage behind his glass of liquor as Gideon fondled Tessa.  He hated how the man spoke to her as if she were a child.  Regardless of her station or appearance there was no need for that.  She was clearly intelligent and should be treated as such.  Of course, he said nothing as it would have earned him only scathing contempt.  He also didn’t appreciate Gideon using Gemini as a threat.  They weren’t his to do with as he pleased.  Granted, had things been different between Tessa and Raiden, he himself may have used that very threat.  But they were his children so that was alright.  Gideon doing it just rubbed Raiden wrong.

    He exhaled sharply when Gideon finally left.  He wasn’t lying when he said he hated parties.  It would be uncomfortable and taxing under the best of circumstances.  This … this was going to be Hell.  Calling for Abigail, his event planner, he brought her to Tessa’s rooms.  “Abby will explain what you can expect and what will be expected of you.  I would do it but I tend to stand in a corner and ignore everyone any time I’m forced into a social situation.  She’s far more suited to give you a proper instruction.”

    Inclining his head to Tessa, he left the room.  He went and informed Gemini of their plans for the evening.  The twins were ecstatic.  Unlike Raiden, they adored social functions.  “Good behavior will earn you a reward.  Gideon’s already promised you can help his sister punish some of her Elohim.”  They shrieked with delight and clapped their hands.  He smiled softly.  Little beasts.  “Dress appropriately and BEHAVE,” he emphasized.  They swore on their lives, repeatedly, and then jumped to their feet to begin choosing outfits.  Raiden shook his head with a smile and headed for his quarters.  Preparing a scalding hot bath, he sank into it with a groan.

    He had to get his head back in the game.  He would be mingling with Seraphim tonight.  Several were close friends but they were still Seraphim.  They had certain expectations.
