active 7 months, 4 weeks agoHidden away within one of Hellifyno’s secluded mountain valleys lay the seldom known town of Aequalis.
This was not a coincidence, but it was a purposeful choice of the town’s founders whom laid the original foundations for the once secular society. They wished for this town to remain concealed so that it would not be preyed upon or dragged into the troubles of the outside world. One of Aequalis’ founding principles and strongest policies was isolation: nobody strayed from Aequalis’ small territory, and no outsiders were allowed inside. These were the ways for countless years, for the sake of peace.
Strangely, it seemed to work. Aequalis knew very little conflict for the majority of its history. Though technologically medieval, the people were content and satisfied living out their calm lives in their own little piece of the world. Barely any outsiders even approached Aequalis, so over time the town’s name was slowly lost to the vortex of time, just like was originally intended. However, peace could not last forever.
Around 20 years ago there was an incident involving a band of outsiders hunting down an individual who stumbled upon the town and used it for shelter. A young child was unwittingly involved, threats of destruction were hurled and the boy fled for his life with a power he couldn’t control. When he returned years later he found a people changed, and that lack of control beget the Phantom Massacre: the first and only murder to have taken place in Aequalis to date.
Skipping to today, both recent events involving the destruction of the world and the rebuilding by strange mice creatures have caused Aequalis’ council to come to a decision. They could no longer fully remain closed off to the world, otherwise they could never prepare for what the world threw at them next. Their gates are now open to travellers and trade, their bountiful crops and luxurious wines willing to be shared with all. Though the people will need to overcome their initial fears of this dazzling yet terrifying new setting, hopefully one day this change will bring about a golden age for Aequalis… rather than lead to another tragedy.
