They say the woods are haunted – and they are. Poorly. The whiskey witch haunting them generally tends to keep to herself, but every once in a while, a weary travel may find her annoying the hell out of them.
Some travelers speak of a tree stump – the size of a house, occasionally seen wandering, tip-toeing on its roots, around the woods. Its ‘eyes’ were windows’, it’s ‘mouth’ a doorway, a red chimney poking from the flat surface of its top, billowing smoke. As soon as it was seen, it would skitter off into the shadows of the wood to disappear.
Which was probably why the first question the witch generally asked travelers was ‘You haven’t seen my house running around here, have you?’
