In the universe, it is believed that there is a cosmic channel, constantly linking the Nine Worlds together.
It is known as Yggdrasil, The World Tree.
Each of the cosmos’ “branches” connects to a different realm, such as Asgard, the realm of the Asgardians; Jotunheim, the land of the giants; Muspelheim, the land of the fire-demons; Alfheim, the land of the elves; Vanaheim, the once proud home of the Vanir; Nidavellir, home of the dwarves; Svartalfheim, home to the dark elves; Niffleheim, the realm of the dead; and also Midgard, the middle realm, which lies in the heart of the cosmos.
There is an event involving Yggdrasil, that occurs every five thousand years, in which, the worlds align perfectly, and things may pass undisturbed from realm to realm.
During this time, the borders between worlds become blurred. But once the worlds pass out of alignment, the connection is lost.
The World Tree is not to be confused with the representation that lies in the chambers of Asgard, for it is vastly greater, and much more magnificent.
May the Nine Realms soon discover peace.
